The beginning of "Starnotes" DJ Service happened so unexpectedly in 1996. Hello, my name is Tom and I am the owner
of "Starnotes" DJ Service, and this is how it all began.
Phase 1: I spent a long time convincing the owner of a local restaurant & pub in Bangor that he should hire me to play a
variety of music at his pub. It would be different from other bars due to the fact that there would be a big variety of music.
Other local bars were usually playing CDs that were being shuffled in a multi-player unit. Although the songs wouldn't be the
same, you would hear the same artist every few songs. His bar would be different in the fact that I had over 2 thousand CDs
and would mix up the music so there were no repeat artists! I would also assess the patrons on the night I was there and try
to gear the music to their age. I would also gauge the mood of the night which would be a guide in determining the selection
of music to be played. Well, the owner finally listened & Friday night would be my night, the night to bring this plan to reality.
Phase 2: While working one Friday night, a customer in the pub approached me to tell me that he really enjoyed the music I
had been playing and wondered if I was available to do his son's wedding reception in the summer. His son would be
returning from California in the summer, for the reception. I thanked the gentleman for his compliment and told him that I did
not do any other DJ work other than the Friday nights at this pub. He was sorry to hear that and encouraged me to think
about doing his son's reception.
Phase 3: A few weeks had passed and I was approached by this gentleman again, asking if I had given his idea any thought.
I reiterated that I really hadn't, plus, I didn't have any equipment to do it. He said that he would rent the equipment that I
needed, and all I had to do was to play the music for the reception. Well, needless to say, that got me thinking. Maybe I
should buy my own equipment and go into business doing DJ work. So, there you have it. The birth of "Starnotes" DJ
Service. And by the way, I did do this gentleman's son's reception, and it was a successful day!
Phase 4: So here I am, since 1996 and still going strong! Current inventory finds me with more than 4,500 CDs to choose
the music from. I have gone to "high quality" computer operation with over 12,000 songs on hand for each event! The
restaurant and pub was sold a couple of years after I started there on Friday nights, and the new owner kept me on providing
the music on Friday nights! "I wouldn't have it any other way" is what he said when asked if he was going to continue to use
my services for Friday nights! I thank him for his continued support! I also want to thank the prior owner for his willingness
in allowing me to work there in the beginning, and most of all, I thank the gentleman who convinced me to do his son's
reception! Without his persistence, there would not be any....."Starnotes".
